Smithers and Jackbox Party Pack are a great example of video game themed music packs.
While the two games have similar visuals and themes, the two music packs have different approaches to each theme.
In Smither’s Pack, you get to hear all the themes from the first three games: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, and The Last Guardian.
In Jackbox’s Pack you get only two themes: Snake and Metal Gear.
You can hear Snake’s theme as early as the Metal Gear game Snake Eater.
In contrast, the Jackbox Pack is set in the future where the series’ themes are more prominent.
Snake’s Theme is played from Snake Eater, Metal Gears theme is played in Metal Gear: Ground Zeroes, and Snake’s music is used to create the final boss fight with the Metal Gears in Metal Gears: Ground Assault.
Both songs are also used in the opening of Metal Gear RAY, but only in the JackBox Pack.
If you’re looking for a more traditional Metal Gear, Metal Metal Metal or Metal Gear Ground Zero soundtracks, look no further than the Metal Metal Pack.
In 2017, both Jackbox and Smither have added Metal Gear music packs to their catalog.
Jackbox also added Metal Metal’s “Metal Gear” theme to the Jackboxes first two games, as well as the “Metal Gears” theme in Metal GEAR Solid V: Ground Shatter.
It’s a cool addition that will definitely be in my future playlists.
The Jackbox pack is available on Steam.
The Metal Gear Pack is available for PS4 and Xbox One, with more games coming soon.
